Kitchen-dining-garden reform for private client

40 m2

This project involved reforming the kitchen area, the exterior patio and the complete façade of this family home – which had been in poor condition.

The inspiration behind this project comes from a desire to create a new family-gathering area, transforming a dark and old-fashioned traditional-style kitchen into an open-plan space directly connected to the outdoors via a large French window. This looks out onto the external patio, enabling those inside to enjoy the plant-life and allowing abundant light to stream into the home – leading to a wide open area in which the kitchen island takes centre stage and enables multiple uses and activities in the same space.

The materials used each have a defined function, with the reflection of the Ibizan-stone kitchen counters mirroring the gabion-mesh natural-stone wall – thus creating a backdrop and providing a connecting feature between inside and out. A new pathway was designed around the outside of the house using diagonally-aligned clay tiling, giving a rustic touch to the garden when combined with long plant beds filled with Mediterranean plants. As part of this project the property’s access point was also redesigned, combining cut steel with the pavement of washed stones, giving the home a look that is both fresh and modern.
