INTEGRAL APARTMENT RENOVATION

Apartment renovation

ADDRESS

Sagasta street nº19, Madrid, Sapin.
2014

AREA

100 m2

This project is based around the total remodelling of space that had been used for offices and converting it into a residential property. The apartment is located in a classic 1920s building in the centre of the Spanish capital.

The inspiration for this project came after a discussion of the client’s needs which were, in this case, a large family that were looking for a place in Madrid where their children could live while completing their university studies – while also being able to host the whole family on weekend visits. The aim was to create a home with a blend of contemporary and industrial styling, playing with wide open spaces for the communal areas – yet without losing a sense of warmth and comfort. The materials used lend a touch of the industrial age, by combining cut steel with micro-cement flooring. Within the bedrooms themselves, the idea was to use the cosier feel of wooden materials in order to create spaces that are smaller-sized and more welcoming, thus being able to lend a larger surface area to the communal spaces. As part of this project, we were also involved in the design of the decoration, opting to use antique overhanging crossbeams in order to create a feeling of levitation and to endow the space with the warmth of natural wood.
